Teaching Aims: 1. Try to grasp the meaning of the whole letter
2. Master the key words and useful phrases.
Contents 1. hear from sb. = to receive news from someone, usually by letter.
e.g. 1. Have you heard from Sarah lately?
2. I haven’t heard from her for ages.
2. be dying to do sth. = want to do sth very much, so that it is difficult to wait (口) 迫不及待地想做某事,渴望做某事
e.g. 1. We’re dying to get started. 我们迫不及待地想开始。
2. They’re dying to learn English well.
3. come across = to meet, find, or discover sb or sth by chance 偶然发现
e.g. 1. He had never come across a person like Shiela. 他从没遇到过像希拉这样的人。
2. I came across an old friend in the street the other day.
4. relevant adj. directly connected with the subject or problem being discussed or considered 有关的,切题的
e.g. 1. For further information see the relevant chapters in the users’ manual. 详情请查阅使用说明中的相关章节。
5. stick out 伸出
e.g. Peter’s ears stick out and Lucy stuck her tongue out.
彼得长着一对招风耳朵,而露西伸出舌头。
6. adjust vi & vt. 调整,使适合= to gradually get used to a new situation by making small changes to the way you do things.
e.g. They’ll soon settle in --- Kids are very good at adjusting.

7. dry out = to become or make sth completely dry after it has been very wet 使……干透
dry sth out e.g. Dry your book out on the radiator.

8. dry up dry sth up
e.g. The sun has completely dried up the soil and the crops are dying. 太阳把土地都烤干了,庄稼即将枯死。
9. privilege n. 特权,特别优待。= a special advantage that is given only to one person or group of people (特权)
e.g. Don’t forget that using the car is a privilege, not a right.

Teaching aims: 1. Try to comprehend the whole letter.
2. Find or guess the reasons for the facts according to the reading passage.
