                       Period 1
Teaching Aim:
1. Talk about civil rights and freedom fighters
2. Improve the students’ ability of listening and speaking
Teaching Procedures:
   Step I .Warming up
           Q1 Who are they and what is their contribution to civil rights in the USA
           Q2 What you already know about these three freedom fighters?
           Q3 How is the situation in their countries now?
           Q4 Has the situation improved ?
  Step II .Listening and discussing
           1. Listen to the tape and then join the parts of the sentences together.
Tom is Mayella’s father  Accused of the attack
Mr Ewell is a young girl Who is trying to find out the truth of the attack
Mayella is a black man Who saw the attack
Atticus is a lawyer Who was attacked and beaten
     2. Listen to the tape again and then answer some questions
                 Q1 There are two important things about Mr Ewell and his account of the attack:
              Something he did not do _________________________________.
  Something he believes __________________________________.
       Q2 Where was Mayella hurt?
       Q3 Do you think Tom is innocent or not? Give a reason.

Period 2
Teaching Aim:
To improve students’ reading ability
 Teaching procedures:
    Step I. Pre-reading
      Q1. What happened in the first picture?
      Q2. What can you see in the second picture?
      Q3. What does the sign say? What does it mean?
      Q4. How would you feel if you had these restrictions in your life?
          What would you do?
    Step II. Reading
     1. Ask students to read the text and then answer some questions.
Q1. What is the text about?
       Q2. What happened in 1955-1956?
       Q3. What was the cause of the boycott? How long did it last?
       Q4. What did the blacks do to show their determination?
       Q5. What did the whites do to end the boycott?
       Q6. Why do you think white people wanted to sit separately from backs?
       Q7. When was the boycott over? How did the blacks win the battle?
    2. Summarize the whole passage.

Period 3
Teaching Aim:
     To make students master the language points in this text.
Teaching Procedures:
