After several students retell the text, go on to deal with the Integrating skills.
Step II Leading in
T: Yesterday I asked you to find something about extreme sports. Which of you will tell us something about extreme sports?
S1: I have once tried Bungee jumping. Have you ever done the big jump? It is exciting and thrilling. It needs great courage. I will never forget that feeling. The following is the definition of Bungee jumping.
Bungee jumping is an activity in which a person jumps off from a high place (generally of several hundred feet/meters) with one end of an elastic cord attached to his/her body or ankles and the other end tied to the jumping-off point. When the person jumps, the cord will stretch to take up the energy of the fall, then the jumper will fly upwards as the cord snaps back. The jumper oscillates up and down until the initial energy of the jump is dissipated.
S2: I learn that Mountain bicycling is very popular in America.
Mountain biking (Mountain bicycling) is a form of offroad cycling which uses very sturdy bicycles (the mountain bike or cross-country bike) with (usually) straight handlebars and wide tires. It encompasses both competitive bicycle racing and purely recreational cycling.
S3: Skateboarding is very popular all over the world. After school my classmates and I often go skateboarding. I’m very interested in this sport. The following is the definition I downloaded from the internet.
Skateboarding is the act of rolling on or interacting with a skateboard. Someone who skateboards is a skater (or skateboarder or most fully skateboard rider). Like roller skating, skateboarding is often done for recreation and as a sport, but, more often than ice skating, it is a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been thought of by many as part of the extreme sports family.
S4:…
……
T: Good! I’m very glad you’ve done a very good job. OK, what do these sports have in common? Who are more interested in these sports?
Ss: All of them are exciting and thrilling. They need not only courage but also skills. Young people are more interested in these sports.
T: Here is the definition of Extreme Sports. Please read it together. Extreme sports center on the joy of doing something that you did not think you could do and overcoming your fears. Extreme sports are most often pursued by young adults who wish to push their own limits of fear and physical ability, and in doing so, also help to push the limits of their sport as a whole.
