第五课时 听说课(二) 
 
 第一步 引入话题

1. Give some pictures of Trinidad carnival. Ask students to talk about them and learn a new word “costume”.

2. Offer some background information of Trinidad Carnival to students so as to get ready for the listening task.

第二步 听力训练(一) (双人活动)

Page 6 Listening

1. First listening for the main idea.

2. Second listening for the following questions.

① What does Carla advise Li Mei to wear?

A. Comfortable shoes and a hat     

B. Light and cool clothes  

C. Both A and B.

② Why shouldn’t Li Mei wear the dress she chose at first?

A. It’s not nice.                 

B. It doesn’t go with hers hoes.

C. It’s too heavy and hot to walk and dance till midnight with such high temperature.

③ Why can’t they hear each other?

A. Because they speak in too low a voice.  

B. Because the loudspeaker make it impossible to hear.

C. Because it’s too crowded.

④ Why do they plan to meet at the parking lot?

A. In case they may get lost.      

B. Because they want to enjoy the carnival alone.

C. Because they’re going to park their cars there.

3. Exchange their answers and listen to the tape again.

4. Let students have the correct answers.

第三步 口语活动 —— 打电话 (双人活动)

1. Ask students to work in pairs to make a phone call according to the requirement of the “Speaking” on page 6.

2. Get some pairs to act out their dialogue in front of the class.

第四步 听力训练(二) (四人小组活动)

Page 43  Listening task

1. Students discuss the 3 pictures and figure out their difference.

2. Listen to the tape and finish Exercise 1.

3. Listen again, fill in the chart in Exercise 2.

4. Exchange their information and perfect the filling of the chart in groups of four.

5. One student from each group makes a report of one of the three columns to the class.

第五步 作业布置

Ask students to find out more common festivals between eastern and western countries and find out their difference in the way of celebrations.

第一步 作业检查

Ask students some questions about western festivals.

第二步 阅读训练(一)“A Sad Love Story”

1. Get students to have a talk about the picture and then guess which love story they may think of.

2. Ask students to read the passage, then answer the questions:

Is there only “a” love story in the text? What story (stories) does it tell us? If there is more than one, why does the writer set such a title? What do the stories have in common?

3. Let students read the passage again and work in pairs to answer the questions on Page 8.

4. Ask students to underline some useful words and expressions and have a good understanding of them like: turn up, keep one’s word, hold one’s breath, apologize, drown one’s sadness in, remind sb. of sth. etc.

5. Oral practice. Let students fly their imagination to finish the ending according to the requirement of “Writing”.

6. Ask students to act out the story with the ending they create themselves.

第三步 阅读训练(二)“Winter Carnival in Quebec”

1. Get students to talk about the pictures.

2. Ask students to go through the passage quickly for the answers to the question: How many events are mentioned in the carnival?

3. Students answer the questions on page 45 in pairs.

4. Get students to discuss “Which activity would be the most dangerous/funniest?”

5. Learn to write a passage according to the order of time.

① Ask students “How is the passage organized?”

② Get students to find out the transitional words like: early in the morning, after admiring, late in the evening, finally, etc.

③ Tell students this is a way of writing — chronological writing, i.e. describe things in order of time. It is often used in telling an event or describe the life of someone. It is an effective way of making a series of things clearer.

第四步 作业布置

Ask students to draw a poster for carnival in Quebec in groups of four or six as they like.
